FAQs

What should I expect at my first CrossFit class?

Here at CrossFit Blackburn we won’t just throw you into your first CrossFit class. If you’re new to CrossFit we’ll first schedule time for a complimentary 1:1 PT session where we can discuss what the classes look like, take you through movement screening, and finish with a moderate intensity workout tailored to where you are currently at.

From this session we’ll recommend an onboarding program to introduce you to the basics of CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting and Gymnastics. Completing this on-ramp will increase your confidence in classes and ready you to attend your first group sessions.

When you arrive at your first class you can expect a welcoming and supportive environment. You might see various movements you haven't done before and people performing different variations of the workout - don't worry if you don't understand everything right away – your coach will guide you through it.

The class typically starts with a coach-led warm up, then a whiteboard brief where the workout is explained in detail with demonstrations of the movements and scaling options. This is followed by either a strength piece or skill practice, and then the workout itself. After the workout, there will be a cleanup and a time to log your scores in our app.

What do I need to bring to my first CrossFit class?

For your first CrossFit class, you only need to bring a water bottle, comfortable workout clothes, and relatively flat gym shoes. All other equipment necessary for the workout will be provided. Please ensure you eat prior to your class: we recommend a carb-based meal 1.5- 2 hours ahead of class or a piece of fruit or other quick acting carb 40 mins prior if it’s a morning session or has been a while since you’ve eaten.
